I am absolutely thrilled to be able to share our new #ConcussionResource with all of you!
This project was created on the premise that concussion education should be something that everyone can access and learn from.
In the #concussion space, we felt there was yet to be a concussion resource that appealed to the general publics consuming behaviours and learning style, and this fact is what ultimately led us to using the documentary (docuseries) method for this project.
We felt this method would allow us to weave together a story that blended different lived experience perspectives and educational elements seamlessly to cultivate a community narrative based around concussions in sport...and we achieved just that.
For this series we interviewed 18 different people, spanning different stakeholder groups within community sport (athletes, students, teammates, teachers, coaches, parents, community leaders, doctors, researches and more) that all have a role to play in Recognizing, Removing, Managing and Preventing concussions.
We are absolutely thrilled with how the final product has turned out and we hope it inspires more resources like this to address complex topics such as #concussion that are still misunderstood by a large portion of the population.
For the projects launch, the video will be shown in schools (Public, Catholic and Private schools) across the Peterborough area for Rowan's Law Day and beyond. Headsupcan has also partnered with the Ontario Athletic Therapist Association (OATA) to disseminate the series on their new E-Learning platform as a mandatory training module for its over 1000 members!
A big thank you to Peterborough Athletics Concussion Awareness, its volunteers and partners for allowing us the creative freedom to put this resource together and helping us disseminate it across the city of Peterborough. I hope PACA's vision of building a community approach to concussion education and awareness comes to fruition beginning today.
And last, but certainly not least, id like to extend a big thank you to my partner Seth Mendelsohn for his hard work and dedication in bringing this project to the finish line. This is no small feat, and it would not have been possible without you.
Together Seth and I learned so much throughout this process, both personally and professionally. Perspectives that we will continue to learn from and carry with us throughout the rest of our lives.
Beyond Rowan's Law Day, this resource is accessible to anyone who wants to learn more about concussions. You can find it on YouTube (attached link) or on the Headsupcan and PACA websites.
If you think more people need to see this resource please share it!
